On January 4, 2024, as a result of artillery shelling in the city of Ochakiv, critical infrastructure facilities of the Chornomorska community were damaged. In particular, artesian wells were put out of operation, pumping equipment was damaged, and several infrastructure facilities were left without electricity. As a result, more than 2,000 residents were left without stable access to water supply.
In response to the emergency, BGV Charity Fund implemented a project to restore the water supply system.
Within the project, the following actions were taken:
- 9 deep-well pumps and the necessary related equipment were procured;
- 5 pumps were installed to restore stable water supply;
- a reserve of 4 pumps was formed to enable rapid replacement in case of repeated damage;
- uninterrupted water supply was restored for 2,320 residents;
- the cost of the service was reduced, allowing the existing tariff for residents to be maintained.
“The key objective was not only to restore water supply but also to increase the system’s resilience to potential repeated damage. Creating a reserve of equipment allows the community to respond quickly to future risks,” said Denys Maksymenko, Project Manager at BGV Charity Fund.
The project was implemented by BGV Charity Fund with the support of the Ukrainian Educational Platform.
The implemented measures ensured stable access to water for residents of the Chornomorska community and strengthened the reliability of critical infrastructure during martial law conditions.
