Sports for unity, support, and gratitude to defenders: a charity football tournament took place in Zhytomyr

On June 15, a charity football tournament “7 vs 7” was held in Zhytomyr, featuring teams from four military units — the 26th Artillery Brigade, the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, the State Border Guard Service, and the National Guard.

The event was dedicated to Father’s Day and emphasized the importance of defenders not only on the battlefield but also in their families. The tournament also served as a space for psychological recovery and a chance for service members to unite around a shared goal outside of their official duties.

FC Polissya provided a comfortable venue for the event and organized a stadium tour for the children of military personnel.

Although there was only one winner, no team was left without a gift — each team received UAH 100,000 to support their unit.

“We worked hard on making this tournament happen because we understand how important it is right now to create spaces for rest and recovery for our defenders. We allocated a prize fund of UAH 400,000 to ensure that no one left empty-handed,” said Polina Aldoshyna, Head of the BGV Charity Fund.

Dmytro Ihnatchenko, Public Relations Specialist at FC Polissya, added: “Our goal was for every participant to feel support and leave with positive emotions.”

The tournament’s partners included the Domino’s pizza chain, which provided lunch for the participants, the Zhytomyr Football Association, and the Asclepius Medical Center, which ensured medical support for the event.

We believe this tournament is a vivid example of how sports can uplift the spirit and bring people together — even in the most difficult times.
