On June 12, the BGV Charity Fund took part in an important event in Zhytomyr — the presentation of the Annual Report of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
“Human rights do not fall silent, even during an air raid. They are not separate from people. Where there is a right — there is also responsibility. The state must protect, and we must remind, monitor, and act,” emphasized Yurii Pohodytskyi, Representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Zhytomyr region.
The event brought together around 200 participants, including representatives of government bodies, public and charitable organizations, human rights advocates, and experts.
Key discussion topics included:
Protection of environmental rights during wartime
Respect for rights in places of detention
Rights of children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and military personnel
Challenges for regional cooperation
Our foundation’s representative, Anna Anikina, spoke during the panel discussion “Regional Cooperation: Protecting Rights in Zhytomyr Region During Martial Law”, highlighting the role of charitable organizations in supporting human rights amid war:
“Effective protection of human rights in wartime is impossible without cooperation — between authorities, communities, and those working on the ground. The BGV Charity Fund often acts as a mediator between these sides to ensure that the right to a dignified life is not just words on paper.
Through the work of our Resilience Center, we offer psychosocial support services for adults, and for children — through our ‘SviTy’ center — we help them cope with trauma and loss.
We protect the right to a safe environment by repairing shelters, the right to education by restoring schools, and the right to healthcare by supporting hospitals.
For us, human rights are not a theory — they are a daily practice of helping,” Anna said.
War does not cancel human rights — on the contrary, it makes their protection even more essential. That’s why our team works every day to ensure that even in the most difficult conditions, human rights are preserved and safeguarded.
