The BGV Charity Fund won a grant, “Community Crisis Response,” from the Danish humanitarian organization DanChurchAid to address the food needs of the geriatric nursing home in Sumy.
With the $10,000 grant, the fund’s team purchased and delivered electronic stoves, a freezer, a refrigerated production cabinet, a chopping-cutting machine, metal production racks, serving carts, and production tables made of stainless steel.
As of November 2023, the Sumy Geriatric Nursing Home for War and Labor Veterans houses 294 individuals: 91 women and 203 men. Among them are 77 internally displaced persons who came from the towns of the Sumy region that border Russia and cities such as Bakhmut, Lysychansk, Kherson, and other settlements. Also, 162 people with disabilities — primarily elderly and immobile individuals, many of whom are bedridden — require special attention and care from the staff. The residents in the facility are predominantly over 60 years old.
As the war continues and the number of people in need in Ukraine grows, the BGV Charity Fund team actively seeks new ways to mobilize assistance for vulnerable populations. This includes expanding the fund’s staff with qualified professionals and selecting another line of work to secure aid — working with grants from international institutions and private companies.
