Last week, Polina Aldoshyna, the director of the BGV Charity Fund, visited the capital of Estonia to personally thank partners for funding and implementing the program providing prosthetic limbs to Ukrainian soldiers.
Estonian officials and MPs were presented with a photo album featuring stories of the defenders who have already received lower limb prosthetics. All nine participants, who embody the “Faces of Strength” project, have many plans for the future, with some having already achieved their initial goals, such as climbing Ukraine’s highest mountain, Hoverla! The head of the fund also visited the soldiers currently receiving treatment at one of Estonia’s most modern hospitals. By the end of this year, Estonian doctors plan to provide prosthetics to ten more Ukrainians.
“The main goal of our Estonia visit was to ensure that the prosthetic program for Ukrainians continues for another year, as it is crucial to us,” Polina Aldoshyna said.
During the trip, the fund chief attended several meetings with Estonian officials, including the Minister of Health Riina Sikkut, the ministers of economy and social policy, as well as representatives of the National Defense and Finance Committees and all factions of the Estonian Parliament. The purpose of the meetings was to convey how important and invaluable it is for Ukrainians today that the €3 million prosthetic program is extended until 2024.
During the meetings, Estonian officials decided to include the program in the state budget, and all participants agreed that the assistance should also be provided next year.
