The first recipients of tablets under the charity initiative: the story of the Tarusin family

The Tarusin family, originally from Donetsk region, has ten children and now lives in Zhytomyr region. Due to the war in Ukraine and constant shelling, they had to leave their home and seek refuge in safer regions.

For three years now, the family has had the status of a family-type orphanage.

The Tarusin family became one of the first participants in a project initiated by the German non-profit organisation #WeAreAllUkrainians in partnership with Plan International and received eight free tablets for education.

“These tablets have helped us a lot, and we are very grateful to everyone who contributed to this. The children study with them, and now we have enough for everyone. Each child has the necessary supplies for learning,” says mother Kateryna Tarusina.

The aim of the project is to promote access to online education and to support vulnerable school-age children from families affected by the war in Ukraine, including internally displaced persons. The project is being implemented by the BGV Charity Fund with the support of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

The logistics partner of the project is Nova Poshta, which delivers the tablets to post offices free of charge. All gadgets are equipped with SIM cards that include a one-year subscription to 4G internet. Vodafone Ukraine is the telecommunications partner of the project.

Each tablet comes with a list of recommended educational apps. Parents help their children install these apps, emphasizing the importance of using the tablet primarily for learning rather than for games. Such parental involvement in the educational process encourages children to take more responsibility for their learning and knowledge acquisition.
